ChinChilla

This post is dedicated to my dear sister whose love is her chinchilla :)

The Chinchilla is a native animal of the Andes Mountains of South America. It is a little larger than a squirrel, but is a crepuscular rodent. In there native habitate they burrow in crevises of rock and jump up to great hieghts up to 5 feet.

Domesticated chinchillas can be highly skittish but with time and patients make wonderful pets and can become quit attached to their ownders. In captivity there life span is usually about 15 years, but as of 2008 the oldest chinchilla is 27 and living in UK. The oldest in America is 26.

They are usually nocturnal animals that do not tend to like to be picked up during day lite hours.

The Grandaddy of Them All

The Grandaddy long legs..

Also known as the Harvest men are allegadly the most venomious animal in the world, but their mouths are so small they pose no threat to humans. The few cases where people were bitten suffered no lasting problems. Which leads researchers to believe this is only a myth.

They are known for their very long walking legs causing them to be called The Grandaddy Long Legs. There legs can be detached to draw attention to predators to allow for escape.

Most species are omniverious eating on small animals and types of fugi and such. And most are use sex to reproduce.

Many play dead to keep predators at bay.

Fossils have been found as far back as four hundred million years ago. They are a very old species.

American Bull Frog

The baritone call of the bullfrog is so deep and resonant, it resembles the mooing of a cow, hence its name. Only males emit this trademark “jug-o-rum” bellow, and their choruses can be heard during the day or night.

The largest of all North American frogs, this giant can grow to a length of 8 inches (20 centimeters) or more and weigh up to 1.5 pounds (750 grams). Even the tadpoles of this species can reach 6.75 inches (17.2 centimeters) in length.

They are among the most wide-ranging of all North American amphibians, found in freshwater ponds, lakes, and marshes from Nova Scotia, Canada, throughout the continental United States, and as far south as Mexico and Cuba. They have even found their way to Europe, South America, and Asia.

Bullfrogs are typically green or gray-brown with brown spots and have easily identifiable circular eardrums, or tympanum, on either side of their heads.

Nocturnal predators, they will ambush and eat just about anything they can fit in their ample mouths, including insects, mice, fish, birds, and snakes. They sit quietly and wait for prey to pass by, then lunge with their powerful hind legs, mouths open wide.

Males are highly territorial and will aggressively guard their land. Females are slightly larger than males.

Fireflies..

We have all seen them. They are a signature summer is here. Our kids go out on warm summber evening and catch them in little jars.

But what you may not know is they are apart of the beetle family. They also produce their own glow. When they take in oxygen it mixes in their body with luciferin to produce light with almost no heat!

Firefly light in intermitent and they blink with a unque patterns within their species.

The female plants her eggs in the earth and when born they eat worms and other insects in the ground. Adults can also eat these insects and pollenate, but some adults don’t eat at all!

Their life span is about two months and they are omnivores about the size of a paper clip.

Man Eating Octopus.

On aol news this morning they are featuring a story on a fresh water octupus out of Oaklahoma. There have been many stories over the years of such a creature, but has never been proven.

http://www.asylum.com/2009/01/14/oklahoma-octopus-paranoia-alert/?icid=200100397×1217039923x1201063767

They say that for years Native Americans have told legends of the lake monster the size of a horse.  But from an anonymus person whome lives in Oaklahoma says the lake wasn’t even formed until 1965 when the Norman damm was completed. So from that point of view it is impossible for the native americans to have started the legends.

But from anothers point of view. Sharks were considered to only live in oceans up until a few years ago when it was found that some spiecies of shark can actually swim up rivers to live in fresh water.  So who is to say there isn’t some spiecies of Octopus that could do the same?

Greater Blue-ringed Octopus(Hapalochlaena lunulata)

Above is a picture of a Blue Ringed Octopus that lives in tide pools of the Pacific Ocean. They are one of the most venomious creatures known to man.

Humboldt Squid photographedby ROV Tiburon.

The above picture is a Humboldt Squid or Jumbo Squid. They are found in the waters of the Humboldt Current. It is a very aggressive predatory squid that is usually found 660 – 2300 feet below the surface.  They have also been know to come within 400 foot of the surface and attack divers. They can grow to be up to 7 feet and weigh in at 100 pounds!!

So there are some big ones out there and some aggressive and venomious ones but could they possibly be living in Oaklahoma?

Blow this….

The Blow Fish

Today we are talkin about the Blow Fish.  The Blow Fish, also known as the Puffer Fish is the second most deadly vertibrate in the world! In Japan  and Korea this fish is considered a delacy. Only skilled and trained chefs are able to cook these fish in to edible food. One wrong cut can kill a man. The Blow fish has enough venom to kill 30 adult humans. There are many anual deaths due to eating these fish.

The puffer soup (chiri) is the main killer of anual deaths due to eating this fish. The sashimi fugu (raw sushi made of this fish) often causes intoxication, light headedness,  and numbness of this lips and other issues and is often eatin for this exact purpose..

Unorthodox Sexuality

In our society many people in the world believe homosexuality and bisexuality are wrong morally and religiously. These same people that believe these two types of sexuality are religiously against the rules also believe he made all that we see and hear. People, animals, and all the earth and space. And most state that god didn’t make animals gay then niether should people.

Well, those people should open there eyes. God made animals and there are many species with homosexual tendencies. Am I saying it is right or wrong. No I am not, but I am here to state the facts.. See below for the following example.

The Forgotten Ape

Bonobos are close relatives of the chimpanzee. In their society more than half their sexual encounters are homosexual. This species uses sex to build alliaces and to show submission and for reproduction. It is believed that they give sex to oppisite or same sex partners to help build relationships and alliances when under attack.  They also use sex to reproduce, but from watching their behavior in the wild we have learned that sex has more than one purpose for them.

Some other such species with homosexual tendencies are:

Baboons, garter snakes, and gentoo penguins.

Missing……..

Missing….Over the years many different phenomenas have been seen in our world. One of the most unknown places on earth is the Bermuda Triangle also known as the Devils Triangle. Nothing has ever been scientifically proven about this strange place, but we have all heard the unsolved stories that have come from there at one point or another. The Bermuda Triangle is known to be in the Atlantic ocean off the coast of Florida, San Juan, Perto Rico and the Island of Bermuda. Hurricanes and other such dangerous weather are prone to this area in which can very well be the cause of some of the disappearances of some aircraft and ships in the area.

The first strange recording of functioning in the Bermuda Triangle where written by Christopher Columbus. In his log book it is written:

Dated October 11th 1492

“The land was first seen by a sailor (Rodrigo de Triana), although the Admiral at ten o’clock that evening standing on the quarter-deck saw a light, but so small a body that he could not affirm it to be land; calling to PeroGutiérrez, groom of the King’s wardrobe, he told him he saw a light, and bid him look that way, which he did and saw it; he did the same to Rodrigo Sánchez of Segovia, whom the King and Queen had sent with the squadron as comptroller, but he was unable to see it from his situation. The Admiral again perceived it once or twice, appearing like the light of a wax candle moving up and down, which some thought an indication of land. But the Admiral held it for certain that land was near…”

Most researchers on the Bermuda Triangle believe it is a manufactured story used to make money and there isn’t anything anymore phenominal here than in any other part of the ocean.

I have found lots of good informational sites that really seem to give more insight on the theories and make things seem more rational the most informational site will be as follows feel free to check it out :)

2800 Years Old

Lake Vida is located in the Victoria Valley in Antarctica. The lake has been sealed under 19 meters of ice for more than 2500 years. The lake was first discovered in 1950 and was then believed to be solid ice, but in 1995 was proved to have liquid water 19 meters down.  It is similar in salinity to the Dead Sea. Because of the temperature factors and salinity factorsof the salt and being completely blocked off from the sun an air on the earths surface it was thought to hold no living organisms. After drilling scientists found bacteria and algae clumped together. After thawing and heating these organisms they literally bounced back to life. After using carbon dating technology the scientist found that the bacteria and algae was 2800 years old. This new finding has put knew insight on life during the worlds Ice Ages.
