For Lyssa..

Cockatiels. This one is for my baby Lyssa, the sweetest cockatiel ever. Cockatiels are miniature Cockatoos.  They are native to Australia, easy to breed and prized houshold pets :) Cockatiels are the smallest of the Cockatoo family. The Cockatiel’s distinctive erectile crest expresses the animal’s state of being. The crest is dramatically vertical when the cockatiel is startled or excited, gently oblique in its neutral or relaxed state, and flattened close to the head when the animal is angry or defensive. The “Normal Grey,” or “Wild-type” cockatiel’s plumage is primarily grey with prominent white flashes on the outer edges of each wing. The face of the male is yellow or white, while the face of the female is primarily grey or light grey, and both sexes feature a round orange area on both ear areas, often referred to as “cheek patches.” This orange colouration is generally vibrant in adult males, and often quite muted in females. Visual sexing is often possible with this variant of the bird. The Cockatiel’s lifespan in captivity is generally given as 15-20 years,[5] though it is sometimes given as short as 10-15 years,[6] and there are reports of Cockatiels living as long as 30 years, the oldest confirmed specimen reported being 35 years old.[7] A cockatiel lived to be 27 years old in Manchester, UK.[8] Diet and exercise, much like in humans, are often major determining factors in cockatiel lifespan.

Wild Animals

I feel the need to post about people with exotic animals as pets. Such as monkeys, alligators, lions, tigers and bears. I am just curious what goes through peoples minds when they take these animals in as pets. They know these animals are dangerious, but yet make the same mistake over and over. There have been many attacks on humans due to these mistakes and it is there own fault. They make the decision to inprison these animals in a life of unnatural captivity and due to this decision cause there own injuries and death. Through this decision they also cause others lives to be in danger.
Just like in the case of the famious actor animal Travis. This family kept them in there home for years trusting him just as they would there own child. And even in that case he could take captivity no longer and did what came natural to him and attacked.
These animals where not put her to entertain us. They are not here to cater to our wants. They are wild and are always going to do what is natural to them.
You as human do the same. How can you expect anyless from these animals.

Ammonites……….

Ammonites were predatory, squidlike creatures that lived inside coil-shaped shells. Like other cephalopods, ammonites had sharp, beaklike jaws inside a ring of tentacles that extended from their shells to snare prey such as small fish and crustaceans. Some ammonites grew more than three feet (one meter) across—possible snack food for the giant mosasaur Tylosaurus.

Ammonites constantly built new shell as they grew, but only lived in the outer chamber. They scooted through the warm, shallow seas by squirting jets of water from their bodies. A thin, tubelike structure called a siphuncle reached into the interior chambers to pump and siphon air and helped them move through the water.

Ammonites first appeared about 240 million years ago, though they descended from straight-shelled cephalopods called bacrites that date back to the Devonian, about 415 million years ago. Ammonites were prolific breeders, lived in schools, and are among the most abundant fossils found today. They went extinct with the dinosaurs 65 million years ago. Scientists use the various shapes and sizes of ammonite shells that appeared and disappeared through the ages to date other fossils.

Did you know? Females ammonites grew up to 400 percent larger than males, presumably to make room to lay eggs.

Travis..

No you may not recognise him right off the top of your head, but you most likely have seen him on comercials. The chimp was in such commercials as old navy and coca cola. The 15 year old chimp travis grew up with his owners being raised as any normal child would. Only difference is this little guy was not a human child. He could dress himself bath himself wated tv and logged on the computer to look at pictures. Sounds like a kid. But he isn’t as he proved the other day by mauling a friend of his owners. The woman came to help subdue the animal after he became agitated and escaped his owners home. After attacking the woman the owner went in and came out of her home carrying a butcher knife in which she repeatedly stabbed the animal. After then animal shyed away the owner called 911 where police and rescue personel were called in. To end the tale the animal died after being shot by police.

No one can explain what made the animal go baserk so I will attemp to explain why here. ANIMALS ARE NOT PEOPLE. And should not be treated as thus. Animals taken out of there habitate and raised in another may forget how they should act in the wild but there instincts never leave. Yes animals do learn certain behavior, but they always have insticts. They are born with instincts and that is what helps them survive.

This is a sad story but in my opinion the owners should never have been alowed to do what they had done to this animal….

ChinChilla

This post is dedicated to my dear sister whose love is her chinchilla :)

The Chinchilla is a native animal of the Andes Mountains of South America. It is a little larger than a squirrel, but is a crepuscular rodent. In there native habitate they burrow in crevises of rock and jump up to great hieghts up to 5 feet.

Domesticated chinchillas can be highly skittish but with time and patients make wonderful pets and can become quit attached to their ownders. In captivity there life span is usually about 15 years, but as of 2008 the oldest chinchilla is 27 and living in UK. The oldest in America is 26.

They are usually nocturnal animals that do not tend to like to be picked up during day lite hours.

The Grandaddy of Them All

The Grandaddy long legs..

Also known as the Harvest men are allegadly the most venomious animal in the world, but their mouths are so small they pose no threat to humans. The few cases where people were bitten suffered no lasting problems. Which leads researchers to believe this is only a myth.

They are known for their very long walking legs causing them to be called The Grandaddy Long Legs. There legs can be detached to draw attention to predators to allow for escape.

Most species are omniverious eating on small animals and types of fugi and such. And most are use sex to reproduce.

Many play dead to keep predators at bay.

Fossils have been found as far back as four hundred million years ago. They are a very old species.

American Bull Frog

The baritone call of the bullfrog is so deep and resonant, it resembles the mooing of a cow, hence its name. Only males emit this trademark “jug-o-rum” bellow, and their choruses can be heard during the day or night.

The largest of all North American frogs, this giant can grow to a length of 8 inches (20 centimeters) or more and weigh up to 1.5 pounds (750 grams). Even the tadpoles of this species can reach 6.75 inches (17.2 centimeters) in length.

They are among the most wide-ranging of all North American amphibians, found in freshwater ponds, lakes, and marshes from Nova Scotia, Canada, throughout the continental United States, and as far south as Mexico and Cuba. They have even found their way to Europe, South America, and Asia.

Bullfrogs are typically green or gray-brown with brown spots and have easily identifiable circular eardrums, or tympanum, on either side of their heads.

Nocturnal predators, they will ambush and eat just about anything they can fit in their ample mouths, including insects, mice, fish, birds, and snakes. They sit quietly and wait for prey to pass by, then lunge with their powerful hind legs, mouths open wide.

Males are highly territorial and will aggressively guard their land. Females are slightly larger than males.

We have all seen them. They are a signature summer is here. Our kids go out on warm summber evening and catch them in little jars.

But what you may not know is they are apart of the beetle family. They also produce their own glow. When they take in oxygen it mixes in their body with luciferin to produce light with almost no heat!

Firefly light in intermitent and they blink with a unque patterns within their species.

The female plants her eggs in the earth and when born they eat worms and other insects in the ground. Adults can also eat these insects and pollenate, but some adults don’t eat at all!

Their life span is about two months and they are omnivores about the size of a paper clip.
